My new laptop has arrived, and a few customer quilts!

Well the new laptop has arrived, and i have almost got everything loaded that i need and a few things that i don’t need but think i want anyway! I went with a HP HDX with a 18.4″ screen. Yap it may be over kill but i do use my laptop daily to watch DVD’s why  I’m working so i figured the large screen would come in handy. That my story and i am sticking to it! I also have a Blue-Ray DVD but i have no Blue-Ray disk’s to try in it. Maybe I’ll pick up a couple sometime and see if it really makes a difference but for now I’ll stick to my regular old DVD collection!

Ok i haven’t been able to post any customer quilts in some time, and i have been asked to update that part of the blog. Only problem is i have just uploaded 48 photos to my WebShots page! So what I’m going to do is post some small photos and you can click on them to go see a large view as well as other views of the same quilt. Most quilts have at least two photos but some have a lot more!

Whats up?!

Yes, i know, it’s been a while! But i was busy preparing for my quilting groups first ever fundraiser slash quilt show! Now if thats not a good reason to take some time of blogging then i don’t know what is!

For you that did not know last saturday, May 2, The Nine Patchers Quilting group had out first ever Spring Fling quilt show! It was a lot of work, after all there are only 10 of us in the group so everyone had multiple things to do to keep us busy. We were able to hold the show at the Beecher City Kluthie Building, were we have our monthly sewing days. It was not a fancy show, we used a simple display setup with just tables and chairs. A ideal we “borrowed” from the local Home Extension quilt show! (thanks girls!) We had 125 large quilts on display as well as a number of small wall quilts made by myself and two other members. We had only one Viewers Choice category , Best Of Show. Not that i am bragging or anything but i was the the lucky winner! If you would like to see photos from our show you can find them here : Spring fling Quilt Show 2009 Here is a photo of the winning quilt, Broken Star! It was maid by my Aunt and myself back in 2007. I used both white and variegated thread for the quilting as well as a double layer of batting that included a layer of cotton with a layer of Hobb’s Poly-Down as the top layer.

This weeks quilting was quit pitiful! I used monday to recuperate fro the weekend show, Tuesday to clean my quilting studio (and yes it was so bad it took all day!) On Wednesday i put in the first of two quilts this week, and it was in the machine until late Friday! It was not a easy quilt to do and it felt like it took forever! i had to quilt on it in between thunder storms as i refuse to even have my machine plugged in during a storm! Anyway on to the quilts!

The first quilt was a large embroidery quilt, I can’t say the name of who made it as i have absolutely no ideal what her name is! And to make it worse I’ve meet her a few different times! lets just say it was made by my friends Gwen’s mother in law and leave it at that! This is the quilt i was talking about above! I used a fluffy poly batting & white thread to quilt on the pre-quilted lines that were on the quilt top itself. If you want to see a photo of the back of  the quilt then visit my May 2009 Work Photos album at WebShots!

Her is the second quilt i quilted this week, this one made by…. My friend Gwen’s Daughter in law! (sorry girls, one of these day i swear i will remember names!) I used a pastel variegated thread to SID the borders & to quilt random swirls on the larger floral border as well as the line dancing in the main body of the quilt. I left the small border un-quilted, first of all because it was pretty small and secondly because of the texture of the fabric that was used would have been messed up if i had quilt over it!

I hope you all enjoyed having a look see!

Friday to Monday!

Well it been a rather productive weekend! I was able to get some quilting done! I’m trying to get as much ready to go before I leave for Paducah next week. ) I know, I know… lucky me!!! remember you can also see my photos over at WebShots!

Pink Squares was made by Janice H. She wanted some feather but said to “do what you want” this modern looking quilt didn’t scream feathers but I did get feathers on the quilt. Classy feathers were not in store but I think the ones I used worked pretty good! Now how did my cat get in the picture?!

The two Embroidery block quilts were made by Barb B. nothing fancy on these two just a simple all over on everything but the embroidery squares. Se wanted the quilting to go around the embroidery, so I just outlined everything. These were not easy quilts for me. For some reason my machine did not care for the fabrics in these two quilts one of them caused a tone of thread breaks and one needle break the second one had a odd man made fiber for the backing that caused some issues. but I got them done!

And last but not least are the quilts by Dotty K. the small wall quilt also has some matching pillows that I didn’t take photos off. You will see that I “removed” the photos and names from the quilt to give the owner a bit of privacy. I know this makes the photo of the finished quilt look odd, sorry but you’ll just have to deal! The second quilt by Dotty is a Irish chain quilt made for a local doctor from fabrics that once belonged to his mother. The machine embroidery flowers are on Linen fabric, same as the border. Dotty has made a several quilts for this doctor and the next one going in is a wool quilt also with machine embroidery what tell you see this one!
