The rest of last weeks customer quilts!

OK, i have already shown the photos of the broken star so here are the other quilts i worked on last week. Please enjoy!

First up os a pink and brown Log Cabin quilt made by Gerry T. (she also made the broken star quilt!) This quilt was quilted with a brown thread on top and a pink thread that matched the color of pink in the quilt, on the back. Gerry likes the thread to show up on the back, giving her a double sided, reversible quilt! It was quilted with a simple wave and swirls on the border, and a feather meander on the main body of the quilt.

Second we have a Twist quilt (what is the real name for this pattern?!) made by Lynora P. Quilted with a cream thread top and bottom with lots of C.C. and feathers.

And last but not least we have a Desert Rose quilt made by Phyllis H!

Customer quilts from June & July

Man has it been a nut house here! Things popping up time and time again that have been keeping me to busy to post anything on this blog or my crochet blog. I wouldn’t go into it right now but i promise i will sort things out for all that wish to know, sometime this weekend…. I hope!

Until then, I have updated my Webshots page with a new Album for June & July. I am not going to post all the photos, just a few faves. But if you want to take a look you can find them all here: June & July Customer Quilting!

Now here are a few favorite quilts from the past couple of months!

This week… make that Last Weeks Work!

Goodness, did the weekend go fast! So, much to do, so little time to do it in, and i still feel like i got nothing done that i really wanted to get done! both my niece’s were here Saturday. And Sunday was all out of order because We had to go grocery shopping, because we didn’t go Saturday because of the kids. AHHHHH! Well at least i was able to get a couple of things done in between running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off.

My Aunt gave the sewing room floor got a good mopping, however you can hardly tell now because of all the mud that was drug back across it. Yes the last snow, (At least i am hoping it was the last snow!) melted and left us with a nice new layer of mud…. on everything. I started to clear off the tables in the room but had a little to much “help” from the brats, I mean little angles! Sunday rolled around and i was able to get a couple of overdue table runners quilted after we got back from town. I still need to get them to the post office and mailed back to there owner today. i should have got some work done last night when my Uncle and Cousin went to play cards but I must admit all my Aunt and i did was prop our feet up in front of the tv, and enjoyed the peace and quiet! Peace and quiet is not something seen in this house all that often, so we enjoy it when we have the chance! Any way, on to the quilts!

First up is a log cabin quilt made by Connie S. This is Connie’s First quilt! And i must say it is one of the best First Quilts that i have seen. I used a Charcoal colored thread to quilt feathers in the light areas and a simple stipple in the dark area of the main body of the quilt. The borders have a simple double ribbon and a swirl quilting design along with a little SID (stitch in the ditch) on both sides of the inner dark border.

Here is a Eleanor Burns pattern called Pink Lemonade. This one was made by Kristy W. Some double Ribbon on the border with some swirls, stippling & some Continuous Curve (C.C.) quilting, in a cream thread.

This is the same Pink Lemonade pattern, this time made by Kristy’s mother Marlene H. Tons of Swirls and some C.C. quilting in a nice bright white thread.

This T-Shirt quilt was made by Martha V. Cream thread, with some simple stipple and outlining of the shirt designs, & a wavy line around each t-shirts block to make sure everything was held good and in place. I love the little stars in the sashing!

This Thangles sampler quilt was made by Sue W. She purchased the blocks during a shop hop trip last year. This time i used a black thread for all the quilting. Lots of C.C. in the blocks. A double ribbon in the sashing & outer border. with a simple wavy line and a double circle in the small borders finished this quilt off.

And lastly we have the two table runners i quilted Sunday, both are made by Lisa K. and contain a bit of velvet like fabric in the large setting triangles. The quilting on both are pretty simple but it was not easy to do. First off Lisa likes her thread to match her fabrics, which means changing threads is a must, but that’s not the hard part. The hard part was trying to get the bobbin thread to stay hidden in the areas with the velvet fabrics. Machine quilters will tell you it really is best to use the same colors of thread on the top and the back to keep this from happening but I always give it two different colors of thread a try when the customer wants the threads to match the fabrics. Sometimes it works, other times, i end up FROGGING the who mess out and going back to using the same color on top and bottom. With the brown runner i was Lucky the same thread work both top and bottom so it went in first. The velvet areas had me worried but it came out pretty good. The seams were a bit think but i was able to work with them most of the time. The dark red runner however caused me a problem or two. First off the backing was a bit to small, so i was not able to quilt around the edge to hold it down, and i also had to skip stitching in the outer border so the Lisa will have room to add some more backing fabric to make everything work out to the same size, that or she will need to trim the tiny little border down by about half all the way round to make the top fit the back, whatever works for her. the backing fabric on this runner was a lot lighter in color than the top so i wanted to use a cream thread on the back with dark read and dark green threads on the top. Yeah, that didn’t work. The cream bobbin thread was popping to the top of the quilt with every stitch leaving a trail of what looked like white pepper tossed all over the top. So i ended up frogging my quilting, and switching the bobbin thread to a nice dark brown. It stands out on the back fabric a bit but it was the best i could come with, so i hope she likes it! As for the quilting designs they were both quilted with some swirls and some C.C. nothing fancy but i do think they turned out pretty darn good, if i do say so myself!

Well that’s all for now! Talk to you all again soon…. I Hope!

One Thank You, and 5 Quilt photos!

Before I get to the photos I want to say thanks to Randi over at AllenQuilts , I tried the pins you suggested and they are working pretty good, not as good as the ones I was searching for but they are much, much better than some of the other I have tired! Thanks for the help!

OK, now this weeks, I mean last weeks quilting! I like to think of last week as Sue week. All but one of the quilts I worked on belonged to Sue G.!

First off we have a Card Trick variation made from batiks

Here is the back of the quilt, the quilting shows up much better on this side!
Card Trick Variation Back, made by Sue G.

Now on to a Carpenters Star. Sue got this one as a Quilt Kit and it is made from half Square Triangles.

This one is the same Carpenters Star pattern as above, but in Christmas prints, so we named it the Christmas Star.

Sports Star, yap another star quilt! This one was made for a 8th grade girl who is really big into sports!

Kinda A Cabin. OK so I am not sure of the pattern name for this one so I made one up! It is one of many hundreds of Log Cabin Variations, This one took me a bit longer than I had thought it would to quilt but I think it turned out pretty good. Sue hasn’t picked up this one yet, it wasn’t ready when me meet with the others so I am hoping she like it OK. The quilting doesn’t show up real well so I will try to give a discription, I quilted feathers in the light area of the main body of the quilt, a simple wave for the first small brown border, a double ribbon for the second border and a really simple larger stipple for the outer border. I did this simple quilting here to help ease in a little bit of extra fullness in the borders, I know there are other was to deal with fullness, and that some of you out there do not care for the ways I deal with floppy borders but this is one of the best ways for me to deal with it, and my customers do not mind it at all!

OK that’s it for now. I had on other quilt that did not belong to sue but I think my camera ate the photos I took of it as I can not find the darn things! If I come across them I post them later! If you want to see more views of the quilts i’ve shown here you can find them at my WebShots November Album!

Talk to you again soon!

So much to do so little time!

Only a few days before Paducah! Tonight I took a few minutes to set down and make myself a list of items I need/want to bring along. trust me, without a check off list I would forget everything that I have to have! Also made a list of things I need to buy before I leave. Snack, Drinks, toothbrush holder and a new SD card for my camera. I was able to check off the new laptop batteries as the one that was ordered earlier this week arrived today! You know I never thought that a battery could get so weak that even after a full charge it would only run the laptop for about fifteen minutes! Anyway I need to break out my suitcase tomorrow and let it get a little air. Darn thing hasn’t been out sense this time last year. Better add that to my list of things to do!Anyway I’ve had a productive couple of days so I have some more photos to share! The first is a photo of a quilt made by Carol C. She makes a photo quilt each year for the family reunion and they action/raffle? it off to help pay for supplies and such. The quilting is very simple, keep the cost down makes it easy to make some money on the quilt raffle!
Photo Quilt
This quilt was sent to my by Pattie L. I’m not sure of the details of the quilt, who made it a so one so I will say she is the owner. Also I have no clue what the name of this pattern is! I’ve been calling it the wavy quilt so I think I will stick with that! It, like most older quilts had a few probable’s, some major fullness being the worst thing to have to deal with. This quilt also has some simple quilting, I jut did a double ribbon, this really helped to ease in some of the extra fullness. There were still some ruff spots but I think it turned out pretty good.
Wavy Quilt  Wavy Quilt Close up
The sampler quilt below was made by Vivian H. Vivian always makes nearly perfect quilts! They always lay flat, are pretty darn close to being perfectly straight and are always perfectly pressed! Such a dream to get to quilt! I have only posted on of the photos of the quilt, if you want to see some more of the close ups check out my WebShots April 08 album.

Sampler

the next two were both made by Rita N. the first is a small log cabin wall quilt. The second is a cute little fussy cut quilt. Check out the squirrels!

Friday’s Quilt!

This is the quilt I worked on this past Friday. It was made by Angie N. from a Kit that was purchased at the Nashville TN. AQS Quilt show in 2007. She added some more fabric to the Kit to make it larger. Once again, I am sorry I do not have a name for this pattern! I quilted feathers in the Brown areas and on the outermost border and innermost border. A windy Swirl Meandering went into the Pink areas and a small swirl went into the second (center) border. Enjoy!
