Some Customer Quilt Photos To Share!

First up are three quilts made by Sue G. The first is called Beep, Beep and has some cute little car applique going around the border. Quilted with some wavy lines and some stipple around the cars, all with white thread.

The second quilt from Sue is a 3-d Pinwheel quilt, made with Winnie The Pooh fabrics it was quilted with white thread. Lots of swirls and a stipple were quilted on this quilt to make it easy to go around the 3-d blocks.

Sue’s last quilt is a traditional scrappy Snowball pattern in dark colors. To quilt this one I used Mother Goose color thread to quilt a piano key border and a Feather meander for the main body of the quilt. This was a first time for me doing the feather meander on a customer quilt so i was a little extra careful with it and it took me a bit longer than it should have but in the end I really like the way it came out!

Also last week i quilted the last three t-shirt quilts in the closet, I believe Dolores’s M. made them all but i could be wrong as sometimes she teaches her friends to make them, so if i have the wrong name down as the maker i beg forgiveness in advance! Two of the three were just a basic t-shirt quilt. Quilting in a matching thread with some stipple outlining and a double ribbon in the sashing. only one of the photos i took came out very well but i still have the quilts downstairs so i will have to see about pulling them back out and getting some better photos. But for now here is the one photo can find!

The third t-shirt quilt is a tiny bit different. Construction wise it the same as the other but this one uses Denim as a sashing fabric! It was a bit tricky to quilt, i tried quilting a wavy SID around each block but had some problems with the bulky seams. i ended up quilting a straight line inside the block about a 1/4′ away from the seam to hold everything in place. I also added the name of the person receiving the quilt in orange thread. Why orange? Because is the Olney Tigers that’s why!

Hope you have all enjoyed the photos! Please remember just click on a photo and it will take you to the correct (hopefully!) Webshots page were you can enlarge the photo to see better close ups!

A Few Quilt Photos To Share

Goodness has it been over two weeks! i swear i need to tie i string on my finger to remind me to post photos on Friday night! Ok that’s not really true, i did think about doing this weeks post Friday why’ll watching some late night tv but i just couldn’t get myself up of the couch to find the laptop! Anyway…

First off is two quilt made by Sue W. The first is a memory/photo quilt in blue. Quilted with a light blue thread with a feather border and windy swirls in the center. Second is a bow tie quilt, quilted with cream and forest green thread with lots and lots of CC!

Here are three photos of a quilt made by Colette F. Sorry i do not know the name of this pattern, but i really like it! i think it would be great made in the Asian prints i have been collecting for a few years now. The quilt was quilted with Mother goose color thread (yes that really is the thread color!) each block was quilted in straight lines going up or down depending on were it fell, giving it a checkerboard effect if that would help explain what i am trying to say! This quilt will be a weeding gift and has the wedding info embroidered on the backing, sorry no photo to post of the back!

Now a couple of photos of Mary H. quilt that was donated to a raffle for a local Relay for Life event. The pattern is called Sweet Sixteen and is free on the Maywood Studio Fabric website. It was quilted with white thread, simple swirls in the nine patch swirl areas, feathered wreath’s in the open white background, a simple swirly border with a little wavy sid to hold the border down. I’m hopping they sell a lot of tickets on this one!

This quilt is a broken Star, made with half square triangles for easy piecing! it also went to a raffle for a Local Relay for Life event over the weekend. I have not heard how much money it made yet but hopflully it did ok! it was made by Geneva H. and was quilted with very simple swirl designs as it was given to me Friday morning and had to be returned that same night by 5:00! yes it was a tossed together quilt on all ends but it turned out ok. Note to my sister— next time you need a raffle quilt give us more than two weeks notice and you’ll get a much better quilt!!!

Now we have three t-shirt quilts from Dolores M. I am not sure if D.M. made them all or if she was just the one to bring them to me for quilting! I know she makes them but i also know she makes the others make there own from time to time! I am only posting close ups of each quilt, You will see some little fuzzy’s sticking around the lettering, just know i did go back and take my tweezers and pull most all of that off before retuning the quilts! I left the fuzzy’s on the photos so the names would stand out more, other wise they tend to blend in and you can not see the quilting! Hey Dolores- do you see my flub in the first photo! Yap i fixed it before i gave it back to you, look close it should stand out like a big number 8!

Well that’s all for now, i promise i will do my best to update again on Friday night!

Dancing Stars & a T-shirt

This week i have only two quilts to share.

The first is a t-shirt quilt made by Dolores M. Quilted with a light purple thread with Poly Down batting. Simple double ribbon sashing quilting with a wavy SID around each t-shirt block. For the shirts i outlined the designs and stippled around to fill the area in.

Next is actually the first quilt i worked on this week, and it took me a few days as i  was just very unsure of what to do in a few places. The stars for instance! Anyway this quilt is going to used as the 2009 Crossroads Quilters Guild harvest Of Quilts Show Raffle Quilt, so I wanted it to be special. Quilting Batiks can be a bit of a challenge, the fabric is a tighter weave than regular cotton so thread breaking does happen, and in my case often! Let me give a goof example, when quilting the stars my thread would break at least once on each and every star. Ya it was a pain in the neck but i got it done! Quilted with a dark tan thread and with Quilters Dream Poly batting. Lots of feathers in the background, some CC in the stars with a simple wave and swirl in the borders. It will be off to the Raffle Charmain for binding tomorrow, hopefully she and the rest of the guild will be happy with it. And most of all hopefully we will sell lots of tickets!

Remember, if you want to see a better photo, just click on one it you will go to the correct webshots page…. I hope!

This week… make that Last Weeks Work!

Goodness, did the weekend go fast! So, much to do, so little time to do it in, and i still feel like i got nothing done that i really wanted to get done! both my niece’s were here Saturday. And Sunday was all out of order because We had to go grocery shopping, because we didn’t go Saturday because of the kids. AHHHHH! Well at least i was able to get a couple of things done in between running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off.

My Aunt gave the sewing room floor got a good mopping, however you can hardly tell now because of all the mud that was drug back across it. Yes the last snow, (At least i am hoping it was the last snow!) melted and left us with a nice new layer of mud…. on everything. I started to clear off the tables in the room but had a little to much “help” from the brats, I mean little angles! Sunday rolled around and i was able to get a couple of overdue table runners quilted after we got back from town. I still need to get them to the post office and mailed back to there owner today. i should have got some work done last night when my Uncle and Cousin went to play cards but I must admit all my Aunt and i did was prop our feet up in front of the tv, and enjoyed the peace and quiet! Peace and quiet is not something seen in this house all that often, so we enjoy it when we have the chance! Any way, on to the quilts!

First up is a log cabin quilt made by Connie S. This is Connie’s First quilt! And i must say it is one of the best First Quilts that i have seen. I used a Charcoal colored thread to quilt feathers in the light areas and a simple stipple in the dark area of the main body of the quilt. The borders have a simple double ribbon and a swirl quilting design along with a little SID (stitch in the ditch) on both sides of the inner dark border.

Here is a Eleanor Burns pattern called Pink Lemonade. This one was made by Kristy W. Some double Ribbon on the border with some swirls, stippling & some Continuous Curve (C.C.) quilting, in a cream thread.

This is the same Pink Lemonade pattern, this time made by Kristy’s mother Marlene H. Tons of Swirls and some C.C. quilting in a nice bright white thread.

This T-Shirt quilt was made by Martha V. Cream thread, with some simple stipple and outlining of the shirt designs, & a wavy line around each t-shirts block to make sure everything was held good and in place. I love the little stars in the sashing!

This Thangles sampler quilt was made by Sue W. She purchased the blocks during a shop hop trip last year. This time i used a black thread for all the quilting. Lots of C.C. in the blocks. A double ribbon in the sashing & outer border. with a simple wavy line and a double circle in the small borders finished this quilt off.

And lastly we have the two table runners i quilted Sunday, both are made by Lisa K. and contain a bit of velvet like fabric in the large setting triangles. The quilting on both are pretty simple but it was not easy to do. First off Lisa likes her thread to match her fabrics, which means changing threads is a must, but that’s not the hard part. The hard part was trying to get the bobbin thread to stay hidden in the areas with the velvet fabrics. Machine quilters will tell you it really is best to use the same colors of thread on the top and the back to keep this from happening but I always give it two different colors of thread a try when the customer wants the threads to match the fabrics. Sometimes it works, other times, i end up FROGGING the who mess out and going back to using the same color on top and bottom. With the brown runner i was Lucky the same thread work both top and bottom so it went in first. The velvet areas had me worried but it came out pretty good. The seams were a bit think but i was able to work with them most of the time. The dark red runner however caused me a problem or two. First off the backing was a bit to small, so i was not able to quilt around the edge to hold it down, and i also had to skip stitching in the outer border so the Lisa will have room to add some more backing fabric to make everything work out to the same size, that or she will need to trim the tiny little border down by about half all the way round to make the top fit the back, whatever works for her. the backing fabric on this runner was a lot lighter in color than the top so i wanted to use a cream thread on the back with dark read and dark green threads on the top. Yeah, that didn’t work. The cream bobbin thread was popping to the top of the quilt with every stitch leaving a trail of what looked like white pepper tossed all over the top. So i ended up frogging my quilting, and switching the bobbin thread to a nice dark brown. It stands out on the back fabric a bit but it was the best i could come with, so i hope she likes it! As for the quilting designs they were both quilted with some swirls and some C.C. nothing fancy but i do think they turned out pretty darn good, if i do say so myself!

Well that’s all for now! Talk to you all again soon…. I Hope!

Another productive week!

Well here it is, Friday night and I am once again setting in front of the TV watching reruns of Iron Chef, typing up the post for my blog, and waiting for the rain to stop so i can even get online! ( satellite internet doesn’t work very well in rain like this!) The rain has been a nearly constant downpour this afternoon and throughout the night causing flooding all around. I have heard that a number of funnel cloud rotations were also spotted but luckily nothing touched down, at least not that I know of. My aunt and I were out in the first rush of the storm this afternoon, on the way home from taking the dog to the vet we were oh so lucky to get caught in the rain and wind. It was odd really, we could see what looked like from a distance possible dust flying across the road ahead of us and a tractor rushing to get out of the field but it didn’t look anything like rain. It was so heavy and thick, then combined with he rain it was like driving directly into a white out snow storm. It hit so fast we really didn’t have anyplace to go so there we set, in her SUV, in rain so heavy we couldn’t see two inches beyond the window, really it was that bad. In-between rushes we inched forward, we knew there was a private drive very close by but finding it took some time but at least we were off the road. We were stuck there for nearly 20 minutes, we waited a bit longer than we needed to but decided we really should make sure it was al over before we headed back out. The country road we were one was flooded in a few places and was getting worse as the water that was pouring off the fields and was no longer being held in the ditches. We got home without a problem and decided we were staying there! It has rained most all night, simple showers, to more downpours. And some major wind. Reports have come across the radio and the local phone gossip line of some nasty wind damage. Some hail was reported but we never saw any at home. It’s been a long night and its still not over!

Ok enough about the weather! It was a very productive week, quilting wise. I actually feellike i got some work done!

First we have a burgundy Brick ( rail fence? ) quilt made by Loretta T. Quilting wise i just used some swirls and some C.C. in the bricks with a cream thread

Then we have a Boston Commons Quilt owned by Diane D. She actually purchased this quilt top at a garage sale for only $5.00! Can you believe that! Someone really didn’t know what they had! The quilt top itself was pretty well put together, Boston commons are know to be a bit wonky with all that bias to deal with but this one was pretty darn good. The quilt had been marked already but the marks are all in chalk so she said to go ahead and quilt it however. Bostons normally have a lot of C.C., Stitch in the Ditch, and or a lot of Ruler work. Oh and a lot of feathers. I wanted to be able to get the quilt done in a timely manner so using white thread, i went with wavy lines instead of straight lines (the would take me way longer as i have to use a ruler to help guide the machine!) and feathers in the white common area.

And now we have the Dolores M. quilt show! Yap she’s been at it again!….
A Kaleidoscope quilt, quilted with swirls, loops, and C.C. I used a puffy batt to help hid a bit of fullness that some of the pieces had

More photos of this weeks work

Yes! the week is over! Ok so not completely over but Saturday is looming just on the horizon and that is my day off! If you can count delivering some finished quilts, doing the weekly shopping, cleaning the kitchen and finishing up organizing the sewing room a day off. Sounds like a lot of work to me!

Not much to talk amount today, it was pretty uneventful. My Nieces were over for most of the day so I did spend some time corrupting them by letting them play video games all afternoon! Anyway here are some photos of the past couple days work.!
